Rev. Dr. Katie Harmon-McLaughlin (she/her) has been consulting, training, and facilitating discernment in diverse communities around the world for nearly two decades. She was trained in Ignatian spirituality and discernment through Pneuma Institute, where she graduated with a dual certificate in Spiritual Direction and Spiritual Leadership. She received her Doctor of Ministry from San Francisco Theological Seminary with a focus on intercultural discernment and spiritual leadership, where she worked with Dr. Elizabeth Liebert as a mentor and advisor. She also has a Master of Arts in Religion from Community of Christ Seminary, and she is a trained labyrinth facilitator through Veriditas. She has spent her career in executive leadership, intercultural resource production, facilitation, education, and formation for communities of all ages.

Katie has led discernment processes in many settings including in-person, online, and hybrid across time zones, languages, and cultures. She has worked with pastors, leadership teams, congregations, communities, and organizations. Katie’s approach to discernment combines wisdom from many sources including the Ignatian and Quaker discernment traditions, emergent strategy, consensus-building and collaborative refinement, and dialogic organization development. She has published workbooks, resources, and articles on personal and communal discernment. She is also the mother of two young daughters, a dog lover, chicken-keeper, nature adventurer, and perpetual spiritual seeker.
